Sunday Setlist 7-19-09
Ever have one of those days where you are just tired? You are tired and you can’t tell if that’s the reason that others seem less”with it” or if they are tired too?

We intro-ed Happy Day today for the first time and while I thoroughly enjoyed singing it (and really, who can’t?) I felt like it just kinda “was”
Some people seemed to really like it (yay!) and others… well… it just “was” and I’m not sure if it was just me being tired, or if they just didn’t really dig the song.
oh well. We’ll give it another try next week, right?
So, the list for this morning was as follows:
- Happy Day [G] (Kim Walker version)
- Trading My Sorrows [G]
- The Solid Rock [D] (David Crowder version)
- Majesty (Here I Am) [Am] (Martin Anderson)
- kids message – Jesus did a yucky job to model being a servant
- Everyday [G]
- announcements
- message – Love ACTually
- Happy Day [G] (slightly shorter version)
We kept the other songs more well known since we were teaching a new one, but I’m just not sure how it went over. Some people said that they really, really enjoyed it, some were singing along right away, and others were just standing there. Just. Standing. There.
How?
How can you just stand there during that song? It has more energy than any other song I know! I mean I was feeling exhausted and I could barely keep from dancing.
High point:
- I actually worshiped this morning. No thoughts about how everything sounded, no worries about blending, etc. I was able to move far past that (other than feeling like the 1st song flopped).
Low point:
- feeling like Happy Day flopped.
I have to say though, that the look of pure joy that was on our pastors wife’s face during worship was WONDERFUL to see. I love it when she sits where I can see her.
So, how was YOUR Sunday?

Yeah, I may try to get in a nap, or just go to bed early. Who knows.

They’ve gotta come round to Happy Day. Just have to…it’s illegal to not enjoy that song
I love Majesty (Here I Am) too … and seeing it in your setlist reminds me that (1) we’ve not done it, and (2) I’m really going to miss Delirious? when they retire at the end of the year…
I’m pretty sure they will – hopefully I was just dragging a bit too much today. Even the gal who didn’t much like it initially is coming around…
As for Delirious? – thanks for reminding me of that which I keep trying to forget. I will miss them terribly! They put out some great tunes in their time…
funny side note on Majesty… it’s the song that gets bumped more often than any other in our playlist, but one that we all love. Ponderous, I know.
Mmmm… Delirious…
I thought that Happy Day went fine, especially for a first time. It’s growing on me…I’m curious to know what it would sound like if Karen led it. If it helps…the closing version of it made the recording — if you’d like I can put it up the website and send you a link so you can review.
And btw, Majesty had me in tears. It was absolutely what I needed to hear, sing, worship. Thank you for that.
Jen – that would mean I would have to listen to myself (not a favorite pastime, I assure you – but possibly very helpful.) I am also curious about Karen… may have to try that next week. Anybody but me on the verses would be an improvement, it’s just soooooo stinkin’ low. An alto I most definitely am not!
Yeah, by Majesty I wasn’t paying any attention to anyone else… it’s just one of those songs that gets me just about every time.
Oddly enough, I even enjoyed singing Trading My Sorrows today… I guess it had been long enough! Just don’t tell Chris
Happy Day was not a favorite for me at first. But then I heard Tim Hughes sing it live. And then I understood the song. Then we did it at Easter last year and it was wonderful. It’s in our semi-regular rotation. That way it feels more fresh when we do it.
Several times the past couple of months, I’ve had the pleasure of having visitors standing directly in my line of sight. Visitors who apparently hate contemporary worship, because they stand there, frowning, armed folded, never, never, never singing. I ask the same thing you ask, how can they do that? As contagious as praise can be, I just don’t understand how people can do that.
